Shane Hayes killed by sdpd last september
Sean Bell killed with 50 shots in NYC just a few hours before his wedding.
Jacob Faust would have been 27 this month. he was killed by sdpd in dwntn sd just blks from his loft apt.
Coalition for justice agenda items/ response/ suggestions:
DA review of shootings -
Have they really agreed to do anything at all? We signed those petitions and will see how the coalition reports back for next steps.
February 15, 2007 sdnt reported: "Spurred by complaints from citizens, the state Attorney General's Office said yesterday it intends to review reports by local prosecutors who examined seven shootings by sheriff's deputies over the past two years.
But that review will not be the independent investigation that community groups called for last week. Instead, the Attorney General's Office will evaluate only the process by which the District Attorney's Office reached its conclusions, rather than investigate whether the shootings were justified..."
Uniform Protocal provided by SD County assoc of sheriffs-
Don't they already have one?
This would be a good tool to point to something in writing and say, Why didn't you follow the protocal on this? Why are cops above the law? It will be nice to see how they respond. The current "protocal" appears to be, if you're wearing a uniform, you answer to no one and it doesn't matter whose mama's baby you wipe from the earth.
Citizen's forum on public conduct. "public politeness?"-
This would be exciting with a speakers bureau or panel inclding transgender, deaf, lesbian folks. Also with role-plays and Legal observation / copwatch training.
We will share suggestions for the coalition.

Involving more local players, gov reps. Leaders in public schools and other sd institutions.
How do we make police accountable to the people?
Elected citizen oversight with equal representation for area demographic.
Copwatch speaker's bureau for schools and other groups
Youth involved in violent crime seem to get younger and younger. What is the cause of the trend?

What is the code of law for copwatching? Any city codes? Is legal right to observe protected outside of constitution?
